The macrobenthos in a fine sand site 5 km west of the island of Sylt (10 m water depth) was studied annulally in autumn by a minimum of six box cores (0.02 m²) sieved through 1 mm meshes and fixed in buffered formaldehyde solution. Individuals were determined to species level and counted, abundance is given as individuals per core (0.02 m²). During five years, temporal resolution was increased by additional sampling in spring (1993 to 1996 and 2002) and from 1998 to 2001 by additional sampling dates in summer. Spatial variability on a km-scale was studied from 1992 to 1996 by sampling three additional sites adjoining to the continuously sampled area.
