The macrobenthos in a fine sand site 30 km west of the island of Sylt (20 m water depth) was studied annulally in autumn by a minimum of six box cores (0.02 m²) sieved through 1 mm meshes and fixed in buffered formaldehyde solution. Individuals were determined to species level and counted, abundance is given as individuals per core (0.02 m²). In three years (1993, 1994, and 1996), temporal resolution was increased by intermittend sampling in spring. Spatial variability on a km-scale was studied from 1992 to 1996 by adding three additional sites adjoining north to the continuously sampled area.
