Characterisation of intermediates in CO oxidation over Pd/Al2O3.

DOI

Recent infrared measurements by one of the applicants (GR) have shown that CO and CO2 adsorption on alumina-supported palladium catalysts form a variety of carbonate species. In addition to monodentate and bidentate carbonates, bicarbonate species are also reported. However, due to a support ¿cut-off¿ about 1100 cm-1, only the (delta-COH) mode about 1200 cm-1 is seen in the infrared spectrum. This proposal seeks to acquire the INS spectrum for this species, which should additionally permit access to the out-of-plane deformation mode plus possibly other low wavenumber features. A complete assignment for this moiety will help investigations examining the mechanism of carbonate formation on these catalysts.
