Sheik Omar Futi part 2
Sheik Omar Futi was a Haluwar native. He travelled throughout the world and met many people.
When he met Maba Jahu he asked him to wage a holy war (Jihad) against the non-believers, and continued to Alfa Molloh. They met and he blessed him and then told his wife that she would have a child. His name was to be called Musa. He informed Alfa Molloh that he would meet a white elephant, that he should kill it, and remove a juju from its stomach for his use. While he was leaving, Alfa Molloh accompanied him until midday and they parted.
Sheik Omar continued to Bajeba where he stayed, built a mosque, and conducted some business. While he was there, one of his children died.
Sheik Omar traveled to Fouta, where there were many Islamic scholars. Among them was Almami Omar who was warned that, someone with a similar name would arrive, and when he called he should not respond. Because if he did, that person would establish rule over them. When Sheik Omar arrived, he was given water by a woman whom he blessed and also asked her to name her child Alieu Bubandiyam whenever she gave birth. Soon, he continued to Almami Omar, greeted and called him by his name, but Almami did not reply. He told Sheik Omar, that he was not his namesake. Sheik Omar requested that he showed him a place to settle, and he later settled at Dingirai.
While in Dingirai, Sheik Omar Futi continued to teach the Koran and propagate Islam. He established an Islamic study center. The ruler of Dingirai, Tamba Boukari, commonly known as Yimbi was enraged after hearing that Sheik Omar was building a fortress. He sent his men to demolish it twice, and again Sheik Omar with the help of spiritual powers built the fortress without Yimbi’s realizing.
Jali Madi Jeebateh the ruler’s griot went to visit Sheik Omar and decided to stay. Sheik Omar claimed that such Kora tunes should not be played for a non-believer. Yimbi extended an invitation to Sheik Omar, but he declined.
