Tense in Slavic

DOI

A tense establishes a time relation between a verbal situation and a reference time. This assumption forms the basis for describing the default and alternative functions of the Slavic tenses. Moreover, this paper characterizes their combination in taxis constructions and in combinations with aspect, voice, and modal categories. Finally, the paper offers a sketch of the Slavic North-South continuum and its prehistory.
