The aims of this survey were: (i) To establish what aspects of general aviation at small airfields cause annoyance and the degree of anoyance caused; (ii) to find out whether the NNI formula used at major airports was also applicable to general aviation; (iii) to develop indices of night time annoyance and relate these to measures of night noise exposure. The general aviation airfield selected for the study was Hamble airport, based on the east side of Southampton Water and used almost solely as a training centre for aircraft pilots.
