Energy dependence of the quais_ferromagnetic fluctuations in the superconductor Sr2RuO4

DOI

Sr2RuO4 is a superconductor with a layered perovskite structure. It is isostructural with the high-Tc cuprate superconductor La2-xSrxCuO4; however, the superconductivity in Sr2RuO4 develops from a well-defined Fermi liquid phase at a temperature Tc = 1.5 K. We have recently performed an experiment on LET and discovered significant magnetic scattering at low-q above Tc at 4 K, which is highly structured and consistent with our detailed first principles calculation of the spin-susceptibility. With the use of a CASTEP calculation of the phonon cross-section, we have shown that we can accurately subtract the low-q signal due to the phonons using data at high temperature - something which has hindered previous unpolarized neutron scattering experiments. Here we request time on MERLIN to obtain data at higher energies to complete our dataset and allow us to finish an important paper.
