Characterising the membrane binding interaction of plant annexin Gh1

DOI

Annexins are a ubiquitous group of membrane associated proteins found in animals, plants and fungi. They are linked to wide range of functions including phospholipid reorganisation, membrane repair, signalling events and the cell's response under stress. Plant annexins, unlike their better characterised animal orthologues are a disparate group displaying distinct structural and functional differences including calcium-independent membrane binding. The membrane binding of plant annexins however are poorly understood and there has been much debate over the exact mode of binding. The membrane binding interaction of plant annexin Gh1, will be investigated under different conditions to determine the mode of binding and its possible functional roles. Neutron reflectometry will allow high resolution structural information of the annexin binding interaction to a tethered bilayer lipid membrane.
