Many room temperature ionic liquids (salts with melting points near room temperature that hereafter will be referred to as ionic liquids) are ¿green solvents¿ for chemical processes. The main objectives of this research program are to establish a microscopic understanding of the effects of these novel solvents, on the: a) Chemical reactions dynamics of Mu with molecules in the electronic ground states by probing the product formation as a function of time using RF muon spin resonance technique. In particular we will probe reaction dynamics of Mu with O2 and CuCl2 as we will be able to distinguish the contribution of spin exchange from addition reaction by RF technique. b) Free radical reaction mechanisms, in ground state. In particular, we will investigate reactions of cyclohexadienyl radical with Benzene, and with O2.
