Slovene Public Opinion Survey 1995/4

These data is Slovene replication of the ISSP 1996, Role of Government III module ISSP85 and repeating in ISSP90 (see also ADP - IDNo: SJMUST89) report citizen's opinions on the functions of their national governments and on what governments should and should not be doing. Topics or thematic coverage include political activity; ISSP Role of Government batteries about government involvement in the economy, preferences regarding various areas of government spending, and what socioeconomic tasks the government should be responsible for, preferences regarding various areas of public spending, support for civic liberties and attitudes on socioeconomic issues. Next part of questionnaire replicates portions of New Democracies Barometer (NDB) and partly also Consolidation of Democracy in Central and Eastern Europe: trust in institutions; Slovenian Politbarometer; political efficacy; taxes; political culture; values; attitudes towards democracy; individual or government should solve difficult life situations; preference between equality vs. freedom; preferences regarding sanctions in the criminal code; political participation vs. authoritarian leadership; is the West European way of live a threat to Slovenia; church influence in public affairs; and economic growth vs. ecological degradation; evaluation of the way of life, the political system, and the political situation at present, in the past, and in the future; which social groups are in better position now; attitudes towards European integration perception of external threats; evaluation of multiparty system; party preference and electoral behavior. The SJM 95/4 questionnaire included the Central European supplement to the 1995 (National Identity) module of ISSP. Demographic variables include age, sex, marital status, employment status, occupation, union membership, education, political party affiliation, religion, left-right self-placement, vote in the last election, subjective social class standing, size of household, family income, and parents' education and occupation.
