Chlorofluorocarbons, helium, and neon measured on water bottle samples during POLARSTERN cruise ANT-XXII/2 (ISPOL)

DOI

CFC concentrations are calibrated on SIO98 scale (Prinn et al., 2000, doi:10.1029/2000JD900141). The accuracy of the measurement is better than 1.5% or 0.04 pmol/kg for CFC-11 and 1.5% or 0.03 pmol/kg for CFC-12. The CFC measurement, at IUP Bremen, used a purge and trap sample pre-treatment followed by gas chromatographic (GC) separation using a capillary column and electron capture detection (ECD) (Bulsiewicz et at., 1998, doi:10.1029/98JC00140). The accuracy is 0.01 nmol/kg for He; 0.2% for d3He; 0.04 nmol/kg for Ne. Replicate samples gave a precision of 0.5% for He, 0.1% for d3He, 0.2% for Ne. Samples were analyzed mass spectrometrically at the IUP Bremen (Sültenfuß et al., 2009, doi:10.1080/10256010902871929).Quality flags: ? = questionable; / = bad; # = mean of replicates
