This dataset contains files with the letter metadata from and to Willem I van Orange (1533-1584) for the year 1572 (extracted from the inventory of his entire correspondence here: https://www.huygens.knaw.nl/resources/briefwisseling-van-willem-van-oranje/), and a selection of the related second-degree network of correspondents from the Catalogus Epistularum Neerlandicarum (CEN) curated by the SKILLNET project (https://doi.org/10.34894/G8XQI0).

The original letter metadata was created during an external project: "Briefwisseling van Willem van Oranje" (https://www.huygens.knaw.nl/resources/briefwisseling-van-willem-van-oranje/). The SKILLNET project conducted mappings and aggregations to another dataset (CEN: https://doi.org/10.34894/G8XQI0).

The datasets provided by the SKILLNET project have been curated (i.e., cleaned, harmonized, reconciled) using manual and semi-automatic methods. Even though a lot of dedication and effort was put in curating the datasets provided here, some errors, inaccuracies and/or missing data may still exist.

Until December 2022 the dataset will be constantly updated with more cleaned data. For that reason, it is important that users of the dataset always include the version number in their reports.
