An Oral History of the Athens Polytechnic Uprising.

DOI

The book (1st edition 2019, 2nd edition revised 2020) is a collection of oral experiential narratives about the Athens Polytechnic Uprising, from November 14 to 18, 1973, collected for this purpose. The purpose of the book is to study the microhistory of the Polytechnic Uprising from various perspectives, through the representativeness of the sample of oral testimonies, in the context of a systematic effort to record narratives that offer as wide and comprehensive a picture of the events as possible. The main research concern was the use of individual testimony as a tool for documentation and enrichment at the level of factual data, but also the conditions of comparison of personal, experiential testimony with collective memory, which in the case of this research object, constitutes one or more memory regimes. . The main motivation of the research was the disposition of reflection beyond the identities of the "Generation of the Polytechnic", a term with essentialist characteristics in historiography but also in public debate, with a specific circle of people, usually in terms of recognizability and retrospective ideological / party legitimacy.
