To find threshold values for the relationship between traffic noise level and disturbance experienced at night.

Variables Physical measurements of road traffic noise were made. The social survey questionnaire included measurements of annoyance with noise at different times of day, location of important rooms at home, evaluation of neighbourhood, and demographic characteristics.

One person from every household in each of 18 selected areas. Each area was chosen to represent a particular social condition and traffic noise situation.
