To collect information on attitudes to new towns and other places in the North East (County Durham prior to 1974 reorganisation) from residents of places surrounding Newton Aycliffe, Peterlee and Washington new towns.

Main Topics:

Attitudinal/Behavioural Questions Frequency of visits to nearby towns and reasons for visits. Respondents were asked to rate various aspects of Peterlee and their hometown. Places of residence of respondent's best friends, how friends first met, frequency of contact, whether ever considered moving to Peterlee. Background Variables Age, sex, marital status, number of children living at home (age), tenure and length of residence. Employment status, nature of firm, job description, position held, place of work (for respondent and head of household).
