The national study SNAC - The Swedish National Study on Aging and Care, includes four participating areas: SNAC-Blekinge, SNAC Kungsholmen, SNAC Nordanstig and SNAC Skåne Gott Åldrande i Skåne (GÅS). In all four areas, a independently research centre conducts a population study and a health care system study. SNAC-GÅS Gott Åldrande i Skåne is intended for a random selection of people, 60 years and older, who live in the municipalities of Malmö, Eslöv, Hässleholm, Osby and Ystad. The study consists of two parts – the population study and the care system study. The population study: The baseline examination was conducted between 2001-2004, with a total of 2,931 individuals aged 60-93 years. The baseline examination included clinical examinations by a physician, a psychologist and a nurse as well as a questionnaire. The first re-examination of participants aged >78 years was performed during 2005-2007. The second re-examination of each participant in the baseline examination was performed during 2008-2010, when also 1,523 new participants were invited. The third and fourth re-examination was carried out during 2010-2012 and 2013-2015 when additional 1,350 participants were included. A fifth and sixth re-examination takes place during 2016-2018 and 2019/2021. The care system study: Data collection take place in two steps: In the first step, information on all elderly people who currently receive health care from the municipalities and/or Region Skåne are collected. Next, information on all new patients and information about the progress of those who already have interventions (continuous collecting) are gathered. Purpose: To study normal aging, functional ability, diseases an associated risk factors, health and life situation and the need of care and service in a normal elderly population.

Den nationella äldrestudien SNAC - The Swedish National Study on Aging and Care, innefattar fyra deltagande områden: SNAC-Blekinge, SNAC-Kungsholmen, SNAC-Nordanstig och SNAC-Skåne Gott Åldrande i Skåne (GÅS). Vid samtliga fyra områden finns ett självständigt forskningscentrum som bedriver dels en befolkningsstudie och dels en vårdsystemstudie. SNAC-GÅS Gott Åldrande i Skåne riktar sig till ett urval av personer 60 år och äldre boende i Malmö, Eslöv, Hässleholm, Osby eller Ystad. Studien består av en vårdsystemdel och en befolkningsdel. Befolkningsdel: Basundersökningen genomfördes mellan år 2001 till 2004, då totalt 2931 personer i åldrarna 60-93 år deltog. En första återundersökning av deltagare > 78 år genomfördes under 2005-2007. En andra återundersökning av alla från basundersökningen skedde åren 2008/2010, då även 1523 nya deltagare bjöds in. En tredje och fjärde återundersökning har skett 2010/2012 respektive 2013/2015 då ytterligare 1350 deltagare inkluderades. En femte och sjätte återundersökning sker 2016/2018 respektive 2019/2021. Vårdsystemdel: Datainsamlingen sker i två steg: I det första steget samlas uppgifter om samtliga äldre som för närvarande erhåller vård och omsorg från de aktuella kommunerna och/eller Region Skåne. I nästa steg samlas information om alla nya vårdtagare och om utvecklingen för de som redan har insatser (kontinuerlig registrering). Syfte: Inom ramen för SNAC är syftet med delstudien SNAC-S (GÅS) att få i en befolkningsundersökning få kunskap om och följa: normalt åldrande, funktionsförmåga, förekomst av sjukdomar och dess riskfaktorer, äldres hälsa och livssituation, samt behov av vård och omsorg. Population part: The sample of older people in the participating areas includes nine representative cohorts aged 60, 66, 72, 78, 81, 84, 87, 90 and 93 years with supplementary selections for the younger and the oldest age groups. Re-examination takes place every three years for people 78 years and older and every six years for people 60-72 years. Every six years, new cohorts of 60 and 81 year old's are included from the five municipalities (2007/2013/2020/) The care system part: Collection of information within the healthcare system part was initiated in all areas with a cross-sectional survey involving all persons, who as of February 1, 2001 received long-term care and care financed by the municipality or county council.

Befolkningsdelen: Urvalet av äldre personer i de deltagande områdena i basundersökning omfattar nio representativa kohorter i åldrarna 60, 66, 72, 78, 81, 84, 87, 90 och 93 år med tilläggsurval för de yngre och de äldsta. Återundersökning sker vart tredje år för personer 78 år och äldre och vart sjätte år för personer 60-72 år. Vart sjätte år sker inklusion av nya kohorter 60 och 81 från de fem kommunerna (2007/2013/2020/ ) Vårdsystemdelen: Informationsinsamlingen inom vårdsystemdelen inleddes i samtliga områden med en tvärsnittsundersökning omfattande alla personer, som per den 1 februari 2001 mottog långvarig vård och omsorg finansierad av kommun eller landsting.
