Molecular interactions between phospholipid monolayers and dimethylsulphoxide

DOI

Neutron reflectivity will be employed to investigate the interaction between dimethylsulphoxide and monomolecular films of phosphatidylcholine. The monolayer will be used as a model of the phospholipid bilayer matrix of biological membranes. The aim is to determine the molecular mechanisms of the biological properties of the reagent such as its cryoprotective action, enhancement of membrane permeability and drug delivery vector properties.
