The purpose of this survey was to illustrate the information activities of the Swedish municipalities during a period of increasing need for local information, due to the amalgamation reform and the expansion of local activities. A mail questionnaire, framed in collaboration with the information department of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities, was sent to all local governments. The questionnaire included questions on information papers and other summaries of local service and activities, information bureaus and local advertising. Other questions dealt with information to immigrants and other groups in society. Purpose: Provide a current picture of the Swedish municipalities actions to inform the general public
Under sjuttiotalet var kommunsammanslagningarna och den kommunala verksamhetens expansion två bidragande orsaker till det ökade behovet av kommunal information. Undersökningen ingick som en del i forskningsprogrammet 'Den kommunala självstyrelsen - en utvärdering av kommunindelningsreformen'. Enkäten, som utformades i samarbete med informationsenheten vid Svenska kommunförbundet, sändes i mars 1980 ut till samtliga kommuner i landet. För att möjliggöra en jämförelse över tid har ett flertal frågor hämtats från den enkät Kommunförbundet använde i sin undersökning 1974. De frågor som berör fysiska planfrågor skall i första hand jämföras med de frågor Örjan Wikforss ställde i sin undersökning 'Planinformation i verkligheten. Om informationsrutiner i fysisk planering' (Statens råd för byggnadsforskning 1979). Enkäten innehöll frågor om kommun och invånarantal; kommunal informationstidning; sammanställning över kommunens service; kommunal informationscentral; kommunens annonsering; information till invandrare; riktad informationsverksamhet; allmän informationsverksamhet; beskrivning av en riktad informationsverksamhet; beskrivning av en allmän informationsverksamhet; uppföljning av informationsverksamheten; kontakter med ortspressen; anställda med informationsuppgifter; informationsverksamhetens organisering och kostnader för verksamheten; information om översiktlig plan; information om detaljplan; behandling av inkommande synpunkter i fysiska planfrågor.
