Muon spin relaxation study on Sr2TIrO6 (T = Ca, Mg, Sc and Lu) to understand the nature of magnetic interaction in double perovskites

DOI

In recent times iridates have become a fertile ground for studies of new physics driven by strong spin-orbit coupling that is analogous to the on-site Coulomb and crystalline electric field interactions. This exceptional occurrence generates a subtle balance between interactions that drives complex magnetic and dielectric behaviours and exotic states rarely or never seen in other materials. Magnetic measurements indicate an antiferromagnetic ordering below 58 K for Sr2CaIrO6 and 74 K for Sr2MgIrO6. Neutron diffraction shows the long range ordering in the former, but not in the later. The study of µSR will be important to understand the magnetic anomaly observed in the magnetiztion data. We propose to study the microscopic magnetic nature of these compounds by means of µSR, which is very sensitive to the local magnetic and structural environments.
