The Improving Newborn Survival in Southern Tanzania (INSIST) endline survey aimed to assess newborn survival and newborn care practices in Southern Tanzania (Lindi Rural, Ruangwa, Nachingwea, Newale, Tandahimba and Mtwara Rural). The survey included 190,000 households, around 140,000 women in reproductive age, and around 50,000 livebirths. Uptake of antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care as well as newborn care practices were assessed in 15,000 livebirths. 300 maternal deaths were recorded.
