After the successful strain measurements at ENGING-X of 3D-printed and cold-rolled Ti-6Al-4V parts, which have shown that this mechanical treatment can eliminate residual stress and distortion, further investigations are currently being conducted with aluminum.Cold-rolling has shown do be effective on titanium. Most recent investigation reveal that this technique is even more effective on aluminum alloys, because of the high ductility. Due to lower application forces rolling would be easier to implement into the additive manufacturing process of aluminum alloys. It could even be used as a surface finish and a shaping technique. In order to understand the straining behavior of rolling and to better estimate the potential, strain measurement of additively built and cold-rolled aluminum structures are indispensable.
