Stable water isotopes and major ions in snow along a traverse route between Kohnen Station and former Plateau Station, East Antarctica

DOI

Along an overland traverse in season 2016/17 from Kohnen Station to former Plateau Station in East Antarctica, snow cores have been sampled using carbon fiber tubes of 1m length (Weinhart et al., 2020). The snow cores have been stored in polypropylene boxes and transportet to the Alfred-Wegener-Institute. The snow cores were analysed for density (dataset of 1m density available under doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.928079 and subsequently cut into discrete samples in 1cm or 2cm resolution, depending on the snow core positions. Afterwards, they were analysed for stable water isotopes using a Picarro L2130-i isotope analyser (CRDS) and for anorganic impurities using a Dionex ICS-2100 (IC). At the majority of the sampling locations, 4 snow profiles in a triangle setup (one profile in the center surrounded by the others with 10m spacing) have been sampled. The common sampling setup is attached as a figure. At some locations, there are less samples available or the central profile was deepened to 4m.
