Speciation and complex-ion formation in protic ionic liquids

DOI

The aim of this proposed study is to explore protic ionic liquids formed from by combining bis{(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl}imidic acid (H[NTf2]) with imidazole and pyridine at different acid:base ratios from 2:1 through 1:1 to 1:2, in order to determine whether cluster or homoconjugated dimeric ([X···H···X] ) ions are formed in the acidic and basic regions of the phase space and to understand how such ions contribute to the overall liquid structure, viscosity changes and proton conductivity.
