This study consists of metagenomes and metatranscriptomes generated from water samples (0.2 - 3 µm fraction) collected at four stations and two discrete depths in the Eastern Fram Strait during the MSM95 Maria S. Merian cruise in September 2020. From the eight samples collected, 4 L of seawater was sequentially filtered through a 3 and then 0.2 µm polycarbonate membrane filter. The filters were immediately stored at -80 °C. Nucleic acids were extracted from the 0.2 - 3 µm fraction using the DNA/RNA Mini Prep Plus kit from Zymo Research. Metagenomes - All eight samples were used to generate metagenomes. Ultra-low input DNA libraries were prepared from the extracted DNA of the eight samples without further fragmentation. Libraries were sequenced on 4 x 8M SMRT Cells (two samples demultiplexed per SMRT Cell). Metatranscriptomes - Four of the samples were used to generate metatranscriptomes. Libraries were prepared from the extract RNA using the Universal Prokaryotic RNA-Seq library preparation kit along with a rRNA depletion step. Libraries were sequenced on a HiSeq 3000 platform in 2 x 150 bp paired-end read mode.
