Unusual polymorphism in sodalites

DOI

We have recently observed extraordinary polymorphism on cooling various sodalites under vacuum. Materials undergo a phase transition followed by a fully reversible amorphisation. The framework is believed to be maintained during this process, but the structure loses long-range order. The present work seeks to understand the details of the observed transitions through a combination of conventional Rietveld, ab initio structure determination and total scattering analysis.
