Investigation of DOS in metallic organic frameworks for neutron moderation purposes.

DOI

We propose to study density of states (DOS) in aluminum based metallic organic frameworks filled with molecular hydrogen for potential neutron moderation purposes. The confinement of molecular hydrogen inside solid materials introduces enhanced density of states at low energies, leading to the higher neutron scattering cross section and suppresses or slows down the ortho-para conversion process in molecular hydrogen. The materials with confined hydrogen will be most relevant for cold and thermal neutron applications.
