Organogels for applications in CO2

DOI

This proposal aims to explore organogel systems, like those recently decsribed1-3, but made from new CO2 philic surfactant-gelators. These have been synthesised to feature CO2-compatible hydrocarbon tail groups, and with two different head groups (Figure 2); namely, [1] the sulfosuccinates and [2] the hydroxyaluminium di-soaps. Promising preliminary SANS data (Figure 1) have been obtained for approach [1], and now a one day slot is required for further experiments. This is part of the Next Generation Facility User grant ¿Neutron scattering studies of CO2-based gels¿ (EP/F020686) and the PhD is co-investigator SC.
