6PPD is a ubiquitous additive to car tires to extend service life, and 6PPD-quinone is a recently described transformation product with high acute lethality in coho salmon. The presence of 6PPD-quinone in stormwater runoff in the Pacific Northwest has been linked with two decades of mass pre-spawn mortality of coho salmon populations traversing urban waterways while in transit to spawning grounds. Here, we assessed the transcriptional impacts of low dose 6PPD-quinone exposure in eyed coho salmon embryos.
