Determination of fullerene-polymer interactions

DOI

Fullerenes often produce very dramatic improvements to polymer properties, but their limited miscibility with polymers is often a severe restriction to the general utility. We are therefore studying fullerene-polymer pi-pi, electron accepting or donating interactions in order to provide insights in to improving fullerene-polymer miscibility without chemical modification of the fullerene. In this continuation proposal we wish determine the radial distribution function of C60 in two different polymers to complete the data we collected in RB820315. The results of these measurements will be used to provide input for predictive molecular modelling of fullerene-polymer mixtures. Ultimately, these results will have a wide impact in technological applications such as photovoltaics and solar cells.
