Enki Teatro is a project uniting both persons with and without disabilities to work in the area of theatre and beyond to convert theatre into a message of inclusion and culture, channelled through the process of learning, expression, and diversion. This way, the artists become emissaries of the message whilst simultaneously turning into active members of the community. The cultural association uses culture in different forms to attain and deepen social groups subject to any form of exclusion. Up to now, the group has been working with people with disabilities of a more advanced age.
Enki’s main objectives are three: First, to unite persons with different abilities in a creative experience, integrating them in a theatre project, whereby the different personal characteristics are used as tools of creativity and expression. Second, Teamwork, improving interpersonal communication and the expression of the I. Third, to document the theatre process to produce a film. The motivation of Enki is to produce theatre works with professional actors as well as physical and/ or intellectual disability in the form of a creative collective, which allows every participant to have a voice, transforming the lives of the said people at the same time. This way, the importance of culture is instilled in its most varying forms, also revealing the group’s three core values: equality, collaboration, and solidarity.
