Gradient and block copoly(2-oxazoline)s have been prepared comprising a partially deuterated hydrophilic poly(2-methyl-2-oxazoline) part and a hydrogenated poly(2-phenyl-2-oxazoline).SANS will be performed both in deuterated water as well as mixtures of deuterated and hydrogenated water and mixtures thereof to vary the contrast between the different parts of these partial deuterated copolymers. The additional contrast coming form the partial deuteration of the hydrophilic monomer will be utilized to probe the difference in micellar structures between gradient and block copolymers, whereby it it expected that the gradient monomer distribution will lead to a less dense internal structure of the micelles. These experiments will provide important novel insights into the effect of monomer distribution on the self-assemby behavior of amphiphilic copolymers.
