Evolutionary Relationships of Anglerfishes (Lophiiformes) Reconstructed using Ultraconserved Elements

We investigated the evolutionary relationships among Lophiiformes using ultraconserved element loci. We found the Lophioidei as the sister group to the rest of the Lophiiformes. We recovered the Chaunacoidei and Ceratioidei as a clade that was the sister to a clade containing Antennerioidei and Ogcocephaloidei. We describe three new families within the Antennarioidei and re-assessed the Antennariidae with both molecular and morphological data. Relationships among the Ceratioidei deep-sea anglers are still unclear.
