Inferring the presence of aflatoxin-producing Aspergillus flavus strains using RNA sequencing and electronic probes as a transcriptomic screening tool.

We aim to develop a bioinformatic tool to infer the presence of specific metabolic pathways, in this case, the aflatoxin metabolic pathway as a model system. This was done by generating highly curated electronic probes that target the aflatoxin gene cluster in Aspergillus flavus. The transcriptome needs to be sequenced and the raw data feed into our platform to confirm the upregulation of aflatoxin metabolic pathway in one single step. The study would help to improve the data analysis for agricultural purposes, where soil or corn samples can be sequenced and inference of aflatoxin production can be made by using the presented technology.
