This proposal explores headgroup-free, fluorocarbon-hydrocarbon hybrid compounds able toform viscous elongated aggregates in supercritical CO2 with the aim of improving theefficiency of enhanced oil recovery (EOR). Oil fields typically contain large quantities of metalions and seawater that can affect the morphology and stability of surfactant molecularaggregates, which in turn acts to reduce the effectiveness of CO2-EOR. This SANS study willprovide important information enabling the development of novel, EOR-oriented, CO2-thickeners which are independent of the ionic strength, nature of the metal ions present andquantity of water.
