Critical Opalescence in Binary Liquid Mixtures

DOI

In this proposal, we would like to investigate how a binary organic mixture approaches its critical point over unprecedented length and time scales, from the micron range down to molecular dimensions. Such capability can only be afforded via the use of state-of-the-art neutron scattering instrumentation and, in particular, OFFSPEC¿s SESANS (spin-echo SANS) and NRSE (neutron resonance spin echo) modes, which provide access to 10nm ¿ 10micron length scales and ~0.01-10ns time scales, respectively.
