Copy of: Bose-Einstein Condensation and Superflow in Liquid 4He in Disorder

DOI

We propose neutron scattering measurements of the atomic momentum distribution and the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) fraction, n0(T) of liquid 4He confined in Vycor. Liquid 4He in the porous media Vycor is an example of Bosons in disorder. The aim is to show that the onset temperature of BEC in Vycor , T_BEC, lies above the onset temperature for superflow, T_C, in Vycor. T_C in Vycor is well known. The scientific goal is to show by direct measurement of BEC that there is a temperature range T_C < T <T_BEC in which there is BEC localized by disorder but no superflow across the sample. This region is similar to the pseudo gap phase T_C < T < T* observed in the cuprate superconductors where there are localized islands of gap and pairing but no superconductivity across the material.
