SexSib-RadSeq

Sturgeons are ancient fish that are commercially important for caviar production. They are endangered in the wild due to overfishing, river pollution, and human action. Our laboratory works in sex differentiation of fish using the Siberian sturgeon as one of the piscine models. In order to identify a SNP or a series of SNPs associated with the sex we have generated a high-quality >74K SNP panel from female and male Acipenser baerii using a high-depth RAD-seq approach, but no SNPs were found to be associated significantly with the sex using the number of fish sequenced. This SNP panel will facilitate many types of genetic studies, including high-resolution genomic analysis. This data can be used to develop strategies to conserve wild populations and improve aquaculture caviar production.
