Paints are typical formulated products. The paint consists of many different components - pigments, thickeners, surfactants - each of which has a specific function. The physical properties of each of these components introduces a beneficial character to the product, however interactions between the various components often leads to a degradation of that preferred characteristic. This project focuses on quantifying the interactions in these complex systems to try to understand how competitive or synergistic interactions define the character of the overall dispersion, but most importantly under conditions that the formulation is assembled and used.
