Phase separation in confined polymer blends studied by SERGIS

DOI

We intend to study the phase separation morphology of confined polymer blends. Interface forces will impose morphologies different from those in the bulk. In our experiments the confinement is introduced in two ways. First, we will investigate the internal structure / morphology in ultrathin films, i.e. with a thickness smaller than the radius of gyration of the unperturbed molecule, Second, by annealing the film the system will dewet resulting in an island structure. With the new technique of spin-echo resolved grazing-incidence scattering (SERGIS) we will determine both the structure / distribution of the islands and the phase separation morphology within the islands.
