High Frequency Radar data visualization (Copernicus Marine Service)

DOI

Python code snippets illustrating how to visualize High Frequency Radar data. This material was first published and shared trough github for it to be used in the frame of the SICOMAR 2021 Summer School and it can be either downloaded or ran online trough the binder project. The available netCDF files containing High Frequency Radar observations have been downloaded from the Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS) product catalog, in particular, from the products dedicated to currents procured by the In Situ Thematic Assembly Center (In Situ TAC). The python code snippets included in the repository are applicable to both radial and total files dsitributed by the Copernicus Marine Service, covering the plotting of the radial sites, coverage, availability contours, velocity vector fields, time serie extraction at a given point and computation of performance metrics. Feedback from the European High Frequency Radar Node (EU HFR Node) was critical in its development. Users are encourage to propose changes over the present content by issuing pull requests in the aforementioned repository or contacting the authors.
