Copy of: Characterization of Ti-Al-V nanostructured alloys for hydrogen storage applications

DOI

The proposed experiment is part of a study on the synthesis and characterization of Ti-Al-V alloys for hydrogen storage systems. We propose to investigate by neutron diffractometry nano-size powders prepared by mechanical alloying and loaded with variable contents of deuterium. The INES diffractometer, integrating data from traditional characterization techniques (X-ray, SEM, TEM) would be used for the study of the structural modification imposed by the adsorbed deuterium into the material framework. 5 days of beam time are requested. Two days will be used for the characterization of samples of different composition not loaded with deuterium. The remaining three days will be employed for samples pre-loaded with variable content of deuterium. All the experiments will be carried out at room temperature and pressure and do not cause deuterium release, so that no special equipment is needed.
