Mineralogical investigation of archeological ceramic fragments from Modena (Italy).

DOI

We propose to investigate on INES the mineralogical composition of a collection of ceramic fragments from three different archeological sites in the Modena area (Italy). These are crockery fragments dating back from the XIV to the XIX century. The complete mineralogical characterization, along with investigation of pigments and glazes, performed by combining neutron diffraction with Raman spectroscopy and SEM-EDS analysis, will allow to determine the provenance of the fragments and the evolution of the firing technology, as already done in a previous experiment on archeological ceramic fragments from Parma. We require for this proposal 9 days of beam time on INES.
