Models of the [FeFe]-hydrogenase active site: high symmetry in a biologically-relevant system

DOI

The [FeFe]-hydrogenase enzymes are some of the best catalysts know for generating hydrogen. We have an ongoing programme to understand how their chemistry works, and to replicate the core 'active site' of the enzyme. Building on previous work, here we will use a model with high symmetry to produce stronger signals than can be achieved using a more realistic mimic. This will help us to identify unique reactivity in our systems, and will enable us to build toward a greater understanding of the overall reaction scheme.
