INS study on the effect of pressure on the soft transverse optical phonon mode of the quantum critical paraelectric SrTiO3

DOI

Recent measurements have indicated that the application of hydrostatic pressure to SrTiO3 can be used to tune the system away from a ferroelectric quantum critical point. This is seen in a dramatic suppression of the dielectric susceptibility of SrTiO3 under a modest applied pressure. The dielectric susceptibility is predominantly associated with a particular low energy phonon mode and we will measure the energy of this mode as a function of applied pressure using inelastic neutron scattering.
