Compagnie Création Ephémère is a professional theatre company founded in 1986 and run by the ACT 12 association. This association consists of its members and the administrative board who represent Cie Création Ephémère’s different activities.
The creative director, Phillipe Flahaut, discovered theatre work with people with mental disabilities in 1980 at the Lille Opera (l’Opéra de Lille). After having worked with L’Oiseau Mouche (Roubaix), he founded his own company at Millau (Aveyron). In 1990, Flahaut started the subproject “Création Ephémère,” which is directed to actors with disabilities. Initially, they produced five performances. Since 1991, Flahaut’s project operates as the Centre d’Art Dramatique pour comédiens différents (Center for dramatic arts for “different” actors or short: C.A.D).
The C.A.D is a theatre school for people with disabilities at the heart of the theatre company Cie Création Ephémère. It has been officially inaugurated in 1994 by the Ministry of Culture. The C.A.D. offers internships in the performing arts or for social workers who work with people with disabilities.
The company Cie Création Ephémère often cooperates with contemporary playwrights like Eugène Durif, Michel Genniaux et Filip Forgeau on various national and international projects.
La Fabrick is where Cie Création Ephémère’s plays are produced and where the actors practice. It is a meeting place for local artists and has a bar where the association members can hold their meetings and small performances can take place.
Compagnie creation Ephémère dedicated a part of their productions to young audiences such as children and teenagers. In 2013, they organized the first edition of the youth festival “La Fabrick des Z’enfants.” Also, the company does street work by creating spontaneous street performances.
The company loves Molière, Shakespeare, Tadeusz Kantor, Antonin Artaud, Peter Brook, Samuel Beckett, and absurd theatre. Its productions are contemporary and critically reflect society.
