Identification of the peculiar forging methods of two Japanese swords of the Wallace Collection

DOI

The aim of this experiment is to gain knowledge on the two forging methods applied to make the Japanese swords under investigation. The purpose of the experiment is to correlate the observed phase distribution and microstructure to what is known and documented about the metallurgical processes applied to make the selected swords, in order to establish a firm correlation between specific procedures and differently shaped swords.
