We propose to determine the mineral phase composition in 15 iron stone samples from the Tall Bazi excavation site in Syria. The results of this investigation will be compared with the distribution of mineral phases in 60 Mesoptamian iron stone objects form three Dutch collections. By means of the Tall Bazi samples we have a body of raw and half fabricate material from one site. Comparisons between the objects will provide us with information on chemical, stuctural variation in objects found at this place. In relation with elemental analysis, neutron tomography and geological site information we may achieve the goal of a geological provenance.
