The White-plague-like disease affecting the brain-coral Mussismilia hispida from Alcatrazes Archipelago, Brazil

In the Alcatrazes Archipelago, off the coast of Sao Paulo state, the first case of disease affecting the native coral, M. hispida, was recorded in 2019, along with a bleaching event. With the aid of 16s rRNA gene amplification and next-generation sequencing, we explored the microbial community associated with portions with signs of disease, comparing it with healthy tissue from the same colony.
