Probing the magnetic structure of transition metal pyrovanadates M2V2O7 (M = Ni, Co, Mn).

DOI

Transition metal pyrovanadate M2V2O7 (M = Ni, Co, Mn) exist with a great variety of crystal structures, which are reflected in the richness of their physical properties. Magnetic ground states of these oxides depend strongly on the environment surrounding the transition metal and also on the exchange interaction pathways. It is expected to be quite interesting to observe the magnetic structure of Co2V2O7 below TC considering canted antiferromagnetic ground state as evident from magnetization data. The observed dielectric anomaly at TN and martensitic-like transition around room temperature in Mn2V2O7 and the multiple magnetic ordering in Ni2V2O7 provoke to study their magnetic structure. We therefore propose to carry out powder neutron diffraction studies on Mn2V2O7, Co2V2O7 and Ni2V2O7 samples to determine the magnetic structure as well as any structural anomalies occurring at TN or TC.
