In August and September 2022, a sediment sampling and site investigation program was conducted near Ny-Ålesund on Svalbard. With the Bayelva Observatory having monitored permafrost temperatures for more than 25 years, the AWIPEV research station serves as an ideal hub for studying the effects of climate change on permafrost degradation. The samples were collected to quantify the physical properties of the permafrost and the active layer. This data package contains two sets of samples: Ny-Ålesund-alpha (eight samples) and Ny-Ålesund-beta (38 samples). Each set includes data on gravimetric moisture content and standard sedimentological properties (carbon and nitrogen content, grain size). Additionally, the Ny-Ålesund-alpha dataset includes sample volumes, volumetric moisture content, and hydrochemical data (electrical conductivity, pH, dissolved carbon, and nitrogen) for selected samples.
